Adv. Dr. Rami Sasson provides the firm’s client legal counsel in the areas of compliance, anti-money laundering and terror financing, privacy protection, enforcement under securities law, competition and antitrust, and cross-border risks in the fields of finance and banking.
Adv. Dr. Rami Sasson has over 24 years of experience as a lawyer in the field of finance. He has served for over a decade as chief compliance officer in the Discount Group (which includes Discount Bank, Mercantile Discount Bank, Israel Credit Cards (CAL), Tafnit Discount Asset Management, leasing companies, insurance agencies, trusts, London and Swiss branch, Israel Discount Bank Of New York). In this scope, adv. Dr. Rami Sasson was responsible for the group’s anti-money laundering policies, cross-border risks (FATCA, CRS, foreign residency), enforcement under securities laws, privacy protection and competition law. In addition, adv. Dr. Rami Sasson was responsible for the group’s communication with the various regulatory bodies. Adv. Dr. Rami Sasson headed the department, with 60 employees under his direct management, and over 200 employees under his responsibility.
Prior to joining the Discount Group, adv. Dr. Rami Sasson served as an advisor to the Israel Securities Authority on matters of corporate governance, enforcement, audits, and more. In addition, adv. Dr. Rami Sasson assisted in writing questions for the ethics and securities law section of the authority’s licensing exam.
Adv. Dr. Rami Sasson has worked in Psagot Investment House for 13 years, between 1999 and 2012, where he served as a member of the senior management, VP of regulation and enforcement. He established Pasgot’s regulation, enforcement and compliance apparatus, and handled, inter alia, promotion of legislation, risk management (started risk management procedure in Psagot), information security, monitoring, compliance, credit management, credit agreements and supervision, ethical code, policy and procedures, anti-money laundering, as well as drafted enforcement plans for the group’s companies, conducted compliance surveys and more.
Between 1999 and 2008 adv. Dr. Rami Sasson served as chief legal advisor, head of monitoring, and responsible for Psagot’s anti-money laundering. Adv. Dr. Rami Sasson set up the group’s legal department, which provides the group’s companies with various legal services, including ongoing legal counsel, legal counsel on establishing new subsidiaries, provision of secretarial services, review of compliance with laws and regulations, drafting commercial agreements in Israel and abroad, reporting to and representing before the relevant authorities, provision of legal opinions, handling security transactions and contractual agreements, lease agreements, customer relations, employment agreements, drafting policy procedures, handling lawsuits, preparing to comply with anti-money laundering order, and leading the sale of Psagot by Bank Leumi to the York Fund, and more.
Adv. Dr. Rami Sasson has worked in the securities department of the Tel Aviv District Attorney (Taxation and Economics) and focused on obstruction and fraud offenses under the Securities Law, provided legal opinions, prepared cases for trial, and represented defendants in the Tel Aviv Magistrate Court.
Between 1994 and 1998, adv. Dr. Rami Sasson served as a senior trade manager in the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange and was responsible for the legal aspects of the exchange’s bylaws and trade procedures, and in addition he lectured academic audiences on the matter.
Between 1992 and 1994, adv. Dr. Rami Sasson served as an analyst in Dun & Bradstreet Israel, and reviewed companies, financial reports and prospectus.
Adv. Dr. Rami Sasson holds a Ph.D in law from Bar Ilan University – Ramat Gan. His dissertation is titled “Virtual Assets: The Need and the Right to Regulation in the Banking System”. He also holds an LL.M from the Bar Ilan university, with a specialization in commercial law. Adv. Dr. Rami Sasson holds an LL.B from the Reichman University, and a B.A. (cum laude) in business administration from the College of Management, with a specialization in marketing and financing.
